Lightbar Highlight: Federal Signal Streethawk
This video is of my Federal Signal Streethawk. This bar was the first type of Streethawk to hit the market, and came out in 1986. It features 4 rotators, 2 front flashers, and 2 alley lights. These were super popular in the Southeast (You can't watch an episode of COPS from the 80's or 90's without seeing them). Enjoy the video, and thank you for watching!!

Lightbar Highlight: Code 3 MX7000 Custom Flasher
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
This video is about my Custom MX7000 Flasher bar. I get a lot of questions about this one. As far as I know, there is no jurisdiction or municipality or department that uses a blue/green combination. For those of you who have been long-time subscribers, you might recognize this bar from some of my 2013 videos. Since then, I have changed the bar around quite a bit. In the 2013 video, the bar was...

This is a short video highlighting my Tomar Heliobe 930L lightbar. Most people are familiar with the 930N strobe version that was released in 1995 (link below for that video). Shortly after that, they released the 930L, which was the LED version of the same bar, using their early-series RECT LED modules. IN this particular bar, some of the modules are full modules (meaning each section is a sin...

This video is part of the "Under the Dome" Series. The 'Under the Dome' series is a slight departure from my typical highlight videos, in that we take a deeper look into the inner-workings of the lightbars in question- how they are wired, how they work, and the general nuances of their interiors. The bar featured in this particular video is the Whelen 8000. If you are unfamiliar with the bar, c...

This is a video of Lectric Lights Ranger lightbar, that first in the market in 1978. It features two strobe lights, and 4 flashers. The strobe lights are not on a centralized power supply, so their flash pattern is randomized, and not in-sync with each other in any way. This bar has an interesting internal setup for the strobes. While It has the typical cylindrical flutes diffusion like you'd s...
Lightbar Highlight: Federal Signal Streethawk (All Light Model)

This is a video of my All-Light Streethawk by Federal Signal, which came onto the market in 1993. This all-light model features a center rotator, rather than the speaker housing that are in typical Streethawk models. It also features two additional lower lights, bringing the total of front flashers to 4, instead of the typical two. On this bar specifically, I decided to create an unusual color ...
Lightbar Highlight: Federal Signal Jetstrobe
Переглядів 3,1 тис.3 роки тому
This video features my Federal Signal Jetstrobe, which made its cop-car debut in 1992. Similar in physicality to the Jetstream, this bar features strobe lights as the primary warning lights, with halogen flashers as supplementary warning lights. This particular bar also had a single white rotator in the middle, but I decided to make that a fixed unit, and turned it into a single Takedown light....
Lightbar Highlight: Code 3 Select Alert- CA Spec

This bar might be my current "holy grail" lightbar. It is a Code 3 SD, with the CA Spec Select Alert feature, which was introduced around 1982. When strobe and/or LED lightbars started to come on the market, they begin incorporating modes that lit only the back of the lightbar, leaving the front off. This is a standard feature in the lightbars of today, and is used daily around the United State...
Lightbar Highlight: Federal Signal JetStream

This is a video of my Federal Signal Jetstream, which came onto the scene in 1989. This is a VERY simple version of this bar, that features a single motor/gear-driven system for all 4 rotators, and a single flasher in the center section. This is the LP 6000 lightbar, made by Code 3. This bar entered the market in 1983, and served many departments well. When I received this bar, it was outfitted with takedown and alley lights, which I did not want on this particular bar. I removed them, and flipped the domes around so you have the solid colors. I used several of them and the one I liked the best was the Code 3 SD with the Federal Twin Sonic coming in 2nd. Used the Smith and Wesson too but didn't care for it. Obvious they didn't get a cop to help with the design for those rectangular headlight bulbs took up unnecessary space that could've been used to spread out the rotators and better position the mirrors which I would've put a diamond shaped one in between and would not have offset them.

    How come it makes that chirping noise as the strobes flash?

    • @AdamsLights
      @AdamsLights 6 місяців тому

      It's actually the capacitor charging up, right before it releases the power load to activate the light. After the light flashes, the capacitor re-charges, and thus, the constant chirping sound you hear.

  • @IHeartAGM

    How come the "wig-wag lights" one makes a chirping noise as the lights flash?

    • @AdamsLights
      @AdamsLights 6 місяців тому

      I answered this in your other comment, but that only happens with strobe lights, due to their capacitors charging. Incandescent and LED lights do not operate that way, which is why the don't make a noise.

    A whole lot of nostalgia for me in the Federal Signal Twin Sonic bars. I worked at Federal Sign and Signal in Blue Island, IL, during the summer of 1975. The country was coming out of the oil shortage of 1974 and I spent most of my time filling backorders for replacement lenses (acrylic and polycarbonate) as they became available in quantity again.
